Newsletter of the Sydney Schubert Society Inc Volume 27 – No 2, November 2007 |
Dear Members and Friends of the Sydney Schubert Society,
It is my pleasure to
invite you to the forthcoming Schubertiade on
November 4 at St. Peters Presbyterian Church, North Sydney, commencing at
the customary time of
2.45 pm. In this Schubertiade the Schubert Society will present
David Miller, one of Australia’s leading pianists and piano accompanists. David
is currently the chair of Ensemble Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium and has performed with outstanding international soloists, singers and ensembles. David
is also a renowned coach for lieder singers and we are very thrilled to present his perspective on Schubert in a Schubertiade entitled “Franz Schubert, David Miller
and the New Generation.”
David will be joined
by distinguished vocal teacher Maree Ryan, whose students have impressed us so much
earlier this year, and leading German coach Ruth Jones as well as by some outstanding
young singers including Erin Holland, Morgan Pearse, Simon Halligan and Emma Moore.
Performances of Schubert’s Lieder will include Lachen und
Weinen, Das Mädchen, Heidenröslein, Die Forelle, Im Frühling, An Emma, An den Mond,
Fischerweise, Punschlied (Schiller), Mignon und der Harfner (Goethe), Seligkeit,
Der Wanderer und der Mond, Abendrot, Rastlose Liebe.
The Schubertiade on
November 4 promises to give a comprehensive and interesting insight into the Lieder
genre, its fascinations and its preparation for performance and I look forward to
welcoming you and your friends there.
It is with sadness that I advise you of the passing
of our friend Susan Amigo, a long time and faithful supporter of the Schubert Society,
who passed away
recently following the death of her husband George some months ago.
Susan and her husband George were regular visitors to our Schubertiades and great music lovers. They also directed the concerts of the Liszt Society and were stalwarts
of the musical life in Sydney. They will be missed and much remembered.
The final Schubertiade
for 2007 will be held at the Goethe Institute on
December 2 and I hope you will
have marked it in your diary already. It will feature the Schubert Ensemble who
will perform Beethoven’s
Quartet in Eb
major
and Schubert’s ‘Trout Quintet’. Naturally, the Schubertiade will be followed by
our usual end of year celebrations.
Thank you for continuing
to enjoy the concerts of the Schubert Society— I look very much forward to seeing you on November 4,
With best wishes,
Goetz Richter, President
