Valda Wilson, Soprano
Valda sang at Schubertiade 325.
A Bachelor of Science graduate from the
University of Sydney, Valda is now in her third year of studies at the
Conservatorium
of Music in the Diploma of Opera, under the tuition of Stephen Yalouris. She has
a penchant for all styles of music from Bach through to classical opera, art song,
and twentieth century jazz, and a great love of performing.
Valda has performed with several of
Sydney
's amateur musical societies, in roles such as Aline in Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Sorceror", Edith in "The
Pirates of Penzance", Pitti-Sing in "The
Mikado", Musetta and Mimì in Puccini's "La
Boheme", Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute",
and Blonde in Mozart's "Seraglio".
For the
Conservatorium Opera School
, she has performed the roles of Susan in "A
Dinner Engagement" by Sir Lennox Berkeley, and the scheming Amore in "Paride
ed Elena" by CW Gluck. Last year she presented a live recital
on classical
Sydney
radio station 2MBS-FM, and will be featured again this year in mid-June as part
of the station's Young Performers programme.
As a soprano soloist with the Sydneian Bach Choir, she has performed
in several of their "Bach 2010" concerts at
Sydney Grammar School
. At the end of last year, she sang the Bach cantata for soprano and trumpet
"Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" with
Orchestra-143, and gave several performances of Mozart's "Exsultate,
jubilate." She is a member of the Pacific Opera Ensemble performing
in concerts and radio broadcasts across
Sydney
.
In 2007, Valda will be singing Geraldine in Samuel Barber's "A Hand of Bridge" and Rosina in Haydn's
"La Vera Costanza", both for the
Opera School
.
Completing her Diploma this year, Valda will audition for the opera
schools in the
United Kingdom
and go on to further study abroad with a view to a career in opera houses in both
Europe and
Australia
.
